Hostel assault leaves 22-year-old dead in Kathmandu, one arrested

21 August, Kathmandu: A 22-year-old man died after being allegedly beaten and attacked with a sharp weapon at Valley Boys Hostel in Shankhamul, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10.

The victim, 22-year-old Basanta Kalathoki, originally from Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-17, Dang, was staying at the hostel. According to the preliminary information, he was attacked by two fellow hostel residents, 18-year-old Shekhar Yadav of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Bara, and approximately 20-year-old Pramit Patel.

Kalathoki sustained serious injuries to his head and neck in the attack. He was rushed to the Civil Service Hospital in Minbhawan for treatment. His condition was reported to be critical, and he was unable to speak. Despite treatment, doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital.

Police have arrested Shekhar Yadav in connection with the incident and are investigating the case. Pramit Patel has reportedly fled, and police are conducting a search to locate him.

Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
